Super breaking news!Dear everybody!
This is probably the most important journal entry I've published here so far.
:bulletwhite: First of all, thank you for your feedback in these last few days and your submissions to the summer challenge. :)
:bulletwhite: Second:let us all welcome our new contributor, =AnnaKirsten aboard! Welcome in our ranks, I hope you'll enjoy working with us :)
:bulletwhite: Third! NEW RULES. After asking you, we decided to introduce MILD quality filtering. This will be strictly objective. Our personal taste wont't dominate. The guidelines are easy to remember: only fractals with at least 3-4 varied properties will be accepted. So no basic gradient + mandelbrot zoom, or changed gradient + 3 branched newton will get into our gallery anymore.
:bulletwhite: Fourth: help and critique system. This will be fairly easy. We will have a new folder for artworks that demand critique. You will be permitted to submit there one piece per week, but quality filtering won't apply to them. We will
Spring Mini-Contest!!!Thanks so much to everyone who has welcomed me on this new adventure with :iconxtremefractals:  The comments and many notes were so appreciated!
I would like to propose a mini-contest for April for our members.
The theme is (of course!) SPRING BEAUTY
The contest will run from April 5th through April19th with the winner announced April 21st!!!
The prize will be 200 Deviant Art points and a mini-feature of the winners gallery.
So use your fractal imagination and depict SPRING BEAUTY using your choice of fractal platform.

A Chance To Exhibit Your Fractal ArtworkHello everyone. :) How are you? hope you are all okay. :) It's been a long time since i wrote a personal journal. :D So here i am. posting a personal journal. Well, not very personal actually. :paranoid:
I'm here to tell you about an upcoming event called "Fractal For Indonesia".  So, me and my friend, ~killythirsk, are organizing a workshop about fractal art, what are they, and how to create them. The workshop will be held on April 7th, 2012 at The Hall of Polytechnic of Bandung, Indonesia.
On the workshop area, there will be an exhibition, showcasing some fractal artworks. Now this is the part where i need your help. One of the mission of the exhibition is to educate the visitors that fractal art is now become a global phenomenon. People all around the world are creating fractal art and it's getting bigger and bigger. So, i need your participation to proof this fractal global phenomenon.

For this challenge we have provided a starter image that uses Laris 3 (Julia) Formula from sam.ufm. This unusual formula is what we would like you to focus all your attention on this month. It provides a number of parameters that can change the base structure quite profoundly so you will find it quite flexible yet fun to work with. You will find that it creates quite fluid, distorted fractal structures and lends itself to rather more abstract images - this will be a challenge to artists like myself who find abstracts push them out of their comfort zone! :crazy: To these people we say: just give this challenge your best shot and see what you can come up with, you may well surprise yourself!!

Tasty Tweaks ProjectHello my fellow friends, watchers and also random visitors/readers :#1:
This Article goes out to all Ultra Fractal Users/Artists on dA, so it would be great, if you could +fav this article if the message appeals to you - also it would be awesome, if you could spread the word yourself :love:
The past days I discovered my special interest in tweaking other people's Parameters to learn and to just create my own vision from what is already given. There are a lot of groups that offer Tweaking Circles/Round Robins like :iconfractalcircles: or :iconroundrobin-central: just to name two of them.
My project is some kind of a fusion between Circles/Round Robin's and Challenges.
I thought of the following:
Within a certain amount of time (let's say for example 1 month) there will be a Tasty Tweaks "Round". The whole thing will be running as follows.
1. I write a SignUp Journal that will always be named "Tasty Tweaks #Number" or something like that.

For the benefit of our many Dutch members we have updated this journal with a Dutch translation of the challenges and the rules. Following the interest shown in the Trapestry colouring during the February Challenge, which was unknown to many users, we decided to make this the focus of our main challenge for the month of April.
So this month we have provided a starter image that uses Trapestry Outside Coloring from jam2.ucl with a standard Julia formula.

Summer challenge: ON!

Hello everybody!

After a really quick "OMFGIGOTANIDEA!" - "OMGIT'SAWESOME" type of conversation we decided to staaart...

*epic drums for tension*

SEASONAL CHALLENGES!

It will work fairly easy: I'll give you guidelines, which you must keep in mind -  but remember: these are challenges, you are not limited, you are just given some hints! :)

You will have 3 categories to enter:

:bulletpurple: COLOR challenge!
I'll show you a picture, or give you color codes, or describe you a landscape, and you'll have to "reproduce" it in a fractal way - with a visibly similar gradient. :)
For this, summer season, I'll give it to your imagination!
Imagine a secluded island on the huge ocean, with vibrant wildlife, fresh air, and colorful birds everywhere! I doubt it was hard ;)
There you go, got the picture in mind? Paint it as a fractal! :)

:bulletblue: FORMULA challenge!
Which will consist of either formula, or coloring algorithm limitations. This time, I would like to ask you, to use one of my all time favorite formulas, the Rose Julia! For this challenge, I would also like you to attach the parameters for us to make sure you used the given formula/algorithm. :)

:bulletgreen: FREESTYLE challenge!
This time you are not limited to colors, or formulas... whatever blows your mind in a season... should that be seaside walks, huge crop fields waving like an ocean, colorful gardens, musical festivals, camps, trips, mountains, exotic countries... whatever your fantasy fancies! The only requirement is to keep the actual season - this time summer - in mind! :)

Now for the few rules which apply:
:bulletred: Every challenge will start on the seasonal solstice! For summer, this year it's... today! :boogie:
It will last until the last day of the season, which is 22nd September  (a three month period.)

:bulletorange: You are permitted to only submit 1 piece into each category monthly, which means everyone will be allowed to submit 9 entries in total!

:bulletyellow: Only fractals made with UltraFractal are allowed, minor modifications and fractal manipulations are acceptable as well, as long as it's clearly recognizably a UF fractal :)

:bulletorange: YOU SHOULD SUBMIT THE PIECES INTO THE SEASONAL CHALLENGE - SUMMER 2012 FOLDER, AND SHOULD INCLUDE THE CATEGORY IN YOUR DESCRIPTION! OTHERWISE YOUR WORK CAN'T BE INCLUDED! THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!

At the end of each season we will choose 1-1-1 best from each category, and reward the winners with features, and a humble 200 points :)
Offerings, donations are more than welcome, we will !NOT! spend any donations on super group status, unless specified, all incoming points will be spread equally amongst the winners!

I'm super excited to see your fantastic works, please feel free to ask if you have any questions, something is not right, or not evident enough! I hope you'll enjoy these "tasks", and will find inspiration in them! :hug:

Question - For the formula category, is this the only formula we are allowed to use on every layer or need it be only the primary layers? What I am thinking about doing would be primarily Rose Julia, but I'd like to layer in some smaller things that would probably come from other formulas.

It's alright that way :) It only needs to contain it in any form. :)

I think I misunderstood this part of the rules: You are permitted only to submit 3 pieces into each category monthly, which means everyone will be allowed to submit 9 entries!
I just tried to enter my 4th entry for this month but it was denied because of: only 3 entries in 30 days allowed!

Did I read it wrong or did you mean 1 piece into each category monthly!?

Indeed. One piece into each category monthly, or fill one category for one month, another one in the next etc. sorry of you misunderstood, I see what confused you, my bad :)

Jim it really says "3 pieces into EACH category monthly".
So I thought 9 per month!!!
If English is not your mother language it is difficult to understand that 3 pieces per month (so 1 into EACH catageory montly instead of 3 pieces) is meant!!!!

I know, the wording is not clear enough, but I checked and the limit is actually one piece into each category per month,
with a total of 9 pieces over the 3 month period.
I will edit the Journal to make it more clear!
